Power BI enables anyone to get insights from data in minutes. But, to unlock the full potential of Power BI, the data needs to be kept up-to-date. Scheduling dataset refreshes in Power BI allows you to do this, regardless of how your dashboards and reports are distributed and consumed. However, we’ve heard feedback that it can be difficult to manage the increasing number of datasets and refresh schedules as an organization scales up Power BI.

Today, I am excited to announce the general availability of new APIsfor managing data refresh in the Power BI service. These new APIs will allow you to programmatically trigger data refreshes and retrieve refresh history for any dataset that you own. With these versatile new tools, you’ll be able to easily automate and scale out Power BI data refresh management – no more clicking through dataset settings or flipping through refresh histories. In addition, these APIs open the door to integrating data refresh into your existing ETL or deployment processes. You could, for example, trigger Power BI data refresh as the last step in your Azure Data Factory ETL pipeline. And, as an ISV, you can easily manage the data for all your embedded analytics solutions.

We’re very excited about what you can accomplish with these new tools. Read on for an overview of how to use them, and all these tools can do for you. Or, jump right into the documentation or sample code.

It is very simple first we need to fix the specific time for the refresh the website. In general, the header is used to redirect the web page in PHP by using the location. But here we will use the header in the Refresh tag to set the time and web page URL to refresh the web page.

Getting Started

To trigger refresh for a dataset in the Power BI service, simply make the following HTTP Request. You can craft this request using an HTTP utility like Fiddler, or by running our sample code.

Remember - the time interval is in milliseconds, so be sure to keep that in mind when setting your refresh time, so it doesn't end up refreshing too often. Some additional tips:

  • Once you make the request, a data refresh will immediately be kicked off in the Power BI service
  • This works for any dataset imported to the Power BI service that you own
  • To get the group ID and dataset ID, you can make a separate API call, or simpler yet, just navigate to dataset settings in Power BI. The URL will have both the group ID, and the dataset ID.
  • Like all requests to the Power BI REST API, you will have to attach an AAD access token. For more information, see the Power BI REST API authentication documentation.
Note: if the dataset is not in a workspace assigned to Premium capacity, then you will be limited to eight refreshes per day. Datasets in workspaces assigned to Premium will support up to 48 refreshes a day.

You can also check refresh history for a particular dataset by making a GET request to the same endpoint.

The service will then return a list representing the refresh history for that dataset, with the same information that you’d see in the refresh history UI in the service.

Some additional tips:

  • You can use the ?top parameter to limit the number of entries you get back – e.g. for just checking on the latest refresh that you triggered with the API
  • Unlike the API to trigger refreshes, this API is not limited to being called eight times a day in non-Premium capacity

TORONTO — The Ontario driver’s licence is getting a facelift that the Progressive Conservative government said will help combat fraud and identity theft.

Transportation Minister Jeff Yurek said Monday that the licence cards were last updated 12 years ago, more than double the industry standard time to refresh the identification cards.

The design will shift from the current mix of blue and green to a look that is largely blue and white with the province’s redesigned trillium logo.

Yurek said the look of the card won’t be dramatically different, but the change has more to do with enhanced security features that aren’t readily apparent.

“We don’t want counterfeiters and identity thieves to know what we’ve changed in the product,” he said. “It should have been updated five or six years ago but the previous government felt it wasn’t necessary for the safety of Ontarians to do so.”

The cards were unveiled Monday as part of an announcement which also included more details about Ontario’s redesigned licence plates and the government’s trillium logo.

Government Services Minister Bill Walker said the new plates, which were unveiled last week, will be available in February 2020 after the current supply is exhausted.

The government also said it has resolved the problem that led to licence plates peeling and flaking and will now guarantee the plates for life.

“The new licence plate is a … materially enhanced, effective product that will last longer for Ontarians,” Walker said. “The plate will feature high-definition sheeting that is stronger and longer-lasting than Ontario’s current licence plate technology.”

The government has confirmed the licence slogan on commercial plates will be “Open For Business,” the same slogan used by Premier Doug Ford’s government dating back to the election campaign last year.

The Tories said last week that the passenger plate slogan would be “A Place To Grow.”

Yurek also said Monday that licence plates will remain on both the front and back of vehicles across the province, after the government said last week it was considering removing front plates as a cost-cutting measure.

The Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police had spoken out against the move, saying eliminating front plates would cut down on the opportunity to identify vehicles involved in crimes.

“We continue to talk to law enforcement about how we can make their jobs easier and ensuring that our roads are safer,” Yurek said.

Flood runner. Ontario, British Columbia and Manitoba are the only provinces that continue to require drivers to have licence plates on the front and back of their vehicles.

Green party Leader Mike Schreiner said the licence card, plate and logo redesigns are a “vanity project” of the Ford government.

“I don’t think it’s necessary to redesign the cards at this point,” he said. “How much is the premier’s branding exercise going to cost taxpayers?”

Interim Liberal Leader John Frasier said the current licence cards have many layers of security features and questioned the need for the redesign.

“It’s pretty hard to fraudulently create one of those licences,” he said.

Meanwhile, Treasury Board President Peter Bethlenfalvy said the government has also issued a directive to the public service that will see ministries and agencies drop use of dozens of different logos and adopt the redesigned trillium unveiled in the budget last week.

The decision will help streamline Ontario’s brand and also simplify logo redesigns for various agencies that have cost taxpayers approximately $2 million since 2011, he said.

“What did we get for all of that money?” he said. “A bunch of different logos and brands that often don’t even look like they’re connected to the government.”
